How to take responsibility for suffering in your life?

  • Toms
  • Yoga

Raising awareness

The answer is simple: Take responsibility for every reaction, action, and inaction in your life and raise awareness and understanding of the ripple effects of your doings: physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Build awareness, and be more present. πŸπŸ’

If that is not enough, then keep reading. πŸ‘‡

When it comes to building awareness then there are so many aspects one can focus on that opportunities are infinite. Just in the field of leadership and communication, one can go down many rabbit holes. Just to name one: body language -> facial expression -> eyes -> eye movements -> eye movements depending on emotional state -> eye movements when person is angry -> … πŸ‘€

That’s one way to go. As much as I love body awareness and the skills I get from yoga practice I prefer to go straight to the root and solve the problem internally. What I mean is that the unconscious mind takes care of a lot of processes in our body, including body language and how we present ourselves to the outer world. And control all of them congruently involves a lot of awareness to be trained. And unless you are a spy trying to deceive everyone, I suggest you set good intentions and reprogram your subconscious mind to show up the way you desire it. 😎

Either way, it all comes back to being aware of your thoughts & emotions. πŸ₯°

Emotional control

Surely you can remember a situation where two people had completely different reactions:Β

πŸ‘‰one might have been completely calm

πŸ‘‰other raging like a bull.Β

And of them might have been you! 🀯

Same situation. One is out of control of his emotions, other retaining composure. One that can remain calm in stressful situations is most likely to have the upper hand if that person is grounded and confident enough. 😎

I love being in control, especially over my emotions. And I hate to lose control and to say something in the heat of the moment that I might later regret. Regret leads to guilt and guilt to suffering. Until I face the issue and see to it is resolved. πŸ€”

That’s why I prefer to skip this limbo, remain in control, and have more time to focus on building my dreams instead of cleaning up the mess around me. πŸ”₯

What stands between us and our dreams?

Nothing, just our mind. 🧠

Our mind has the capacity to create and destroy. It can create opportunities and destroy obstacles. And it is equally easy for it to create obstacles and destroys opportunities. ☯️

A mind is a tool and it does not care how you choose to use it. It really does not. Like a computer. It will follow every instruction you give it. If something is not working as expected, then search for a bug! Either hardware or software. 🐞

β€œIt’s the realization that your limitations are self-imposed, and that the opportunities for you today are enormous beyond belief.” – Earl Nightingale

When you see it like this, then there is really nothing standing in the way of our dreams. I would say that the path is clear, however, it is not entirely true either. Because a path does not exist until you tell the mind to create it. And YOU have a choice about what kind of path you are creating. πŸͺ„

🀜Is it easy and fun?

🀜Is it hard and challenging?

🀜Is it exciting and adventurous with some challenges along the way?

When I say it is a choice… it’s also not entirely true. πŸ™ƒ

β€œAll truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.” – Kybalion

Yes, you have a choice, however, it does not mean that this choice is always a conscious one. Made consciously or not, the potentiality of a choice is always there. ☝️

It’s exactly like breathing. Most of the time it is automatic, however, you do have the option to control it whenever you will. πŸ’ͺ

Many factors determine your breath on automatic setting: your past conditioning, habits, present fitness level, environment, etc. It also determines your range of immediate possibilities at any given time. However, with consistent intentional action, this capacity can be expanded. You can have deeper, slower, and calmer breathing even when under light exercise. πŸ“ˆ

The same goes for your mind. It can be very positive around the areas of life your feel confident about. And can make you anxious in areas of less experience. The mind can be trained and programmed to benefit you and encourage you on your journey. πŸ’ͺ

So what stands in our way to live our dreams? 🧐

The most common ones are

❌We don’t take personal responsibility.Β

❌We blame others or make excuses

❌We don’t take a conscious choice to face fear and let it grow stronger behind the scenes.

❌We are not present: we live in the past (regret) or future (expectation)

❌We don’t control our mind – we let it run wild like a beast on disempowering programs that do not serve us anymore.

And all this is because our brain has been programmed to survive and protect ourselves from pain.

Yes, pain is an inevitable part of life. And one of the biggest problems we face is thinking that we should not have pain. This belief creates suffering. And suffering is a choice!Β

Think about it. Like breath. We have a choice to control it or not. Likewise, we have the option to control our minds: and how we deal with our pain.Β

If we don’t deal with pain, it grows stronger as we suppress it and ignore its cause of it. It’s like putting a hand into a fire and keeping it there regardless of the pain. Expect more of it if you ignore it. 😀

The more pain we have more negative emotions we experience and it builds momentum going down the spiral. As we go down the negative emotional spiral it keeps collecting all kinds of negative emotions until it is hard to recognize what was the pain that started all this terror.Β

And all this is because we did not notice the small pain in the beginning and let it develop into suffering. πŸ”¦

β€œImagine life when you are able to notice the small pain and deal with it before it becomes a big problem.”

Yes, it is possible for everyone, especially you! This is a simple skill of awareness that everyone can practice, improve upon, and master. That’s why meditation is so popular and powerful, it prepares us to remove suffering from the menu of life. πŸ‹

Now you might be thinking: Wow this sounds amazing, but how do I apply it in my life? How do I take action on these ideas? πŸ™‹

I already mention one tool: meditation. 🧘

There are so many different types of meditations out there, that it really does not mean anything. Especially for a beginner. 🀯

What makes things more complicated is that there are many types of personalities and not every meditation will work the same way for everyone. 🧐

βœ… You can try them till you find ones that work best for you (trial and error) with persistence.Β

βœ… You can save time and hire a professional who knows which tools will work the best for you.Β

DM me if you want my help regarding the choice of meditation and training your mind. I am happy to give you my recommendations to make your journey more pleasant. πŸ˜‡

In conclusion, I want to ask you a couple of questions:Β

🎯Do you have a goal or intention?

[If not you are asking for trouble and living on autopilot.]

🎯Do you have a clear plan and action steps to get there?

[If not you will get distracted easily by abundance of opportunities how to spend your time daily]

🎯Are you still blaming the external world for situations, circumstances, and people that get in your way?

[If yes, then you are giving your power away and not taking personal responsibility]

🎯Are you taking your own responsibility to tame your mind to live the life you choose?

[If not you are hoping your environment has given you good programming that suits your dreams specifically]

I trust this is helpful and curious about what part resonated most with you. ✍️
